The Impact of Ancient DNA Discovered in Siberia For many decades, there has been an overwhelming curiosity about what life was like before humans ruled the earth - back when life on land, off land, and even the very land itself was very different than it is today. Pieces of this puzzle have been discovered all over the world, ranging from perfectly preserved skeletons at the bottom of bodies of water to fragments discovered in vast deserts. Due to the conditions of the ancient finds, there is only so much that can be deciphered about the past, which leads to the creations of various theories of what life was like in different areas and why and when it changed. However, in at least one stretch of land, there is a lot that can be told thanks to one of the best finds in recent history: some of the oldest DNA ever recovered. This amazing find was first reported in April of 2003, when it was told that animal and plant DNA was found in the permafrost of northeastern Siberia (Thomas 2003). The permafrost was located between the Lena and Kolyma rivers of former western Beringia and was drilled out under scrupulous conditions – using extreme care not to let any of the precious samples become contaminated. In fact, strains of specialized bacteria were used to ward off any possible contamination (Willerslev 2003). The event was led by Eske Willerslev of the University of Copenhagen in Denmark (Thomas 2003), who’s international team looked towards drilling for sediment deposits in the layered ice when other areas containing possible ancient DNA samples provided only rare samples that were highly susceptible to extraction and examination difficulties (Willerslev 2003). A RHIT has to have knowledge about medical records and implement the skills that go into filling out all the documents in the files. A RHIA hires and teaches medical record technicians how properly to complete medical documentations.Three specific examples of differences between a record administrator and a records technician are a technician can assist an administrator, an administrator reviews a technician’s work, and an administrator manages or supervises the medical staff at a medical facility. A RHIT has to be knowledgeable in medical requirements, standards, procedures, regulations, and methods. Ratified by the states in the winter of 1865, the Thirteenth Amendment was put into play. It declared, â€Å"Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude†¦shall exist within the United States or any place subject to their jurisdiction.† (Primary Documents). Officially, this amendment outlawed the practice of slavery, there was, however, an exception. That exception was the use of involuntary servitude, or slavery, as a form of punishment. More than four million African Americans walked free in 1865, this had a rather negative impact on the Southern economy. And so came the Convict-lease system. Many white Southerners saw this system as a solution to their economic hardships; nonetheless, it was often seen as being worse than slavery. In addition to the convict lease system was the practice of Sharecropping and Peonage. These forms of subjugation brought even greater distress to the newly freed African Americans. Despite the ratifying of the Thirteenth Amendment the abhorrent treatment of this newly freed race did not change significantly thanks to programs like the Convict Lease system, Peonage, and Sharecropping. A federal census was taken in the United States in 1890, as it had been every decade since 1790. It was especially notable for being the first federal census  to provide a separate schedule form for each family, a method that would not be used again until 1970. The result was a volume of papers that far exceeded that of the previous ten federal censuses combined, which Carroll D. Wright, Commissioner of Labor, implied in his 1900 report on The History and Growth of the United States Census may have driven the ill-fated decision not to make copies. The first damage to the 1890 census occurred on 22 March 1896, when a fire in the Census Building badly damaged the original schedules relating to mortality, crime, pauperism, and benevolence, and the special classes (deaf, dumb, blind, insane, etc.), as well as a portion of the transportation and insurance schedules. First-person accounts claim that carelessness resulted in an unnecessary delay in fighting the fire, yet another tragedy to the 1890 census.1  These damaged 1890 special schedules were believed to have been later destroyed by an order from the Department of the Interior. The U.S. National Archives was not established until 1934, so the remaining 1890 census schedules, including the population schedules, were languishing in the basement of the Department of Commerce Building in Washington, DC, when fire broke out in January 1921, damaging a good portion of the 1890 census schedules. Many organizations, including the National Genealogical Society and Daughters of the American Revolution petitioned that the remaining damaged and waterlogged volumes be preserved. Despite this public outcry, however, thirteen years on 21 February 1933 Congress authorized the destruction of the surviving 1890 schedules, deeming them as useless papers under an Act originally passed by Congress on  16 February 1889 as an â€Å"Act to authorize and provide for the disposition of useless papers in the Executive Departments.2 The damaged, but surviving, 1890 federal census schedules were, unfortunately, among the last papers disposed of under this act, an act soon thereafter succeeded by the 1934 law establishing the National Archives. In the 1940s and 1950s a few bundles of surviving census schedules from 1890 were discovered and moved to the National Archives. Situations like these, where young children can’t get the help they need, are what cause high unemployment rates. Sadly, this doesn’t only happen in inner city neighborhoods. I’ve seen it happen in my own neighborhood with kids that I have grown up with and decided that certain decisions would be okay and those same decisions took over their lives and took away opportunities that they can now never get back. If there were more centers in inner city areas with either free or cheap activities for citizens, more kids, teens, and young adults would have activities or games to do instead of walking the streets. It would stop people from doing drugs, robbing stores, or hurting passersby on the sidewalk, from getting drunk and trying to take advantage of one another and making hurtful decisions. One example of a hurtful decision was in January of this year in Brooklyn. A New York City policeman was shot in the back of the head while pursuing a man who had reportedly been armed with a gun. I happen to know the policeman, Officer Brennan, who’s his young daughter and wife are what gave him the power to believe that he could make it through this tragedy. If people go to these centers, maybe they wouldn’t stay out as late. However, if they’re not free, it’s less money that they can spend on drugs and alcohol. These would be centers where one can rent equipment and a court to play select sports for a certain amount of time. For example, on Long Island there are plenty of things to do in almost any town and crime is lower. In the inner city neighborhoods people have less money and less activities. Having paintball arenas, airsoft arenas, and other controlled environments can be rewarding and reflecting of what good behavior should be like. I’m sure that spending the small amount of money, around ten dollars a group, for these activities or games wouldn’t be a problem because some people like to compete and play a lot of pick-up sport games with random people. Growing up in these places just might make future generations fall into the same bad path of doing drugs and the same wrongful decisions and getting into trouble or even getting killed. Every day in the newspapers or on the news you can read or hear about a new story where someone made a bad decision and some innocent person was accidentally harmed or killed for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The country has been coming out of a recent state of economic depression which caused various amounts of job loss across the country thus, giving too many people too much free time. And now that the hurricane came and wiped out the nice places, citizens now have less things to do on weekends and their days off from work. I think that crime will increase in these inner city neighborhoods because of these reasons. I like to know that when I leave my house every day to go to school that I’m not going to die in a car accident because of someone recklessly driving to get away from the police. Ethics in business activities should be observed to ensure fair competitions in the market. Resources are always scarce, and companies should utilize them well when getting into any business. International trade does not mean the company put up branches which are costly. The company can use intermediaries or brokers to alleviate the loss. Companies should make sure they are making profits in the home country to venture into new markets to avoid frustrations as the growth of any firm takes states. According to Azar, and Vaidya Nathan, S. eds., (2016), change is uncontrollable and therefore, organizations must be ready to embrace it and ensure it is an advantage. Globalization and technological changes have made business venturing into the foreign market, but this does not mean that all become successful. Decision made by the management team of any company must be robust to cater for changes in future and be able to accommodate them for survival in the market. Managers should monitor a nd take necessary measure to all activities that may stop business performance. Even though global business environment has made business worse through creativity and innovation, a solution can be found. The most profitable business options must be valued by the organization management to enhance business success. Continuity of any business is very useful and must be considered in any action taken. Environmental factors that affect the business can be avoided by the firm being intra vires to avoid any problems (Hillary, 2004, pp. 561-569).
